Producers of The Rum Diary are still scouting for extras to fill out scenes with Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart and Amber Heard. It is estimated that almost 3,500 people are needed over the 49 day filming schedule.
One of the biggest challanges facing director Bruce Robinson is recreating the carnival of Saint Thomas. For that scene in particular around 800 people are needed, of whom 200 have to be tourists. One of the many problem’s facing the casting director is getting people with the right look for a film set in 1960’s. Issues such as hair styles can prove to be a huge problem and anybody interested in being an extra must be prepared to have their hair styled in the appropriate manner to match the era in question. Another problem is finding enough fair skinned people to act as tourists and in a sense stand out from the Puerto Rican extras.
Anybody that is interested in trying out should send a full body photo to extraspr@gmail.com, accompanied by your name, age, height & clothes size. Applicants should also mention what town they are from, because filming will take place in Vega Baja, Ceiba and Naguabo. Oh and you might want to check out this great shot of Johnny Depp as Paul Kemp from recent filming on the island.
All I can say is I cannot wait for this film to be released!

WTF??! i was concerned too about not having any news about Yeamon’s character performer…but i hope this were some mistake!
This is wrong! THIS IS VERY WRONG! WHO, ANY PERSON WHO HAD ACTUALLY READED THE BOOK(NOT MENTION FANS) WOULD EXPECT NOT SEEING YEAMON?! COME ON!
IF KOREAN RUM DIARY WANTS TO SEE A DIFERENT MOVIE TO THE BOOK…GO TO SEE SOME DAMN TOMS CRUISE MOVIE OR KEVIN SMITH ONE FOR GOD SAKE!
i was expecting this movie, i read the book again this week and this news is just wrong! i’cant believe it!
PD:SANDERSON IS GAY!!!!!! WHY DEPP?! WHY ?!!
Trust me it is still very much The Rum Diary and although there is changes it still has Hunter S. Thompson all over it. In fact Bruce Robinson and Johnny Depp have even added more of a Hunter element to the film with some nice nods to the man himself and also with the path mapped out for Kemp towards the end of the film. It will rock, trust me.
My friends and I have been stalking Johnny Depp in Puerto Rico (So far they’ve filmed in el viejo San Juan and also in Calle Juan Ponce de Leon), I must say…from watching the production the movie makes no sense and the Director isn’t really all that nice, BUT I can’t wait to see either. Johnny Depp by the farthest is nothing but sweet. Even when they told him not to get down from the car, he did to shake hands. Too bad they won’t let him sign autographs. Also, we’ve seen Giovanni around and it’s sad to see no one here recognizes him. He’s so cute in person! xD
I was an extra in the carnival scene, the hair and makeup where done perfectly. The wardrobe was breathtaking. The main problem I saw in shooting this movie set in 59 (not 60’s) was the weather in PR. It has been raining there for nearly a month. We had to stop shooting several times and wait for the sun to return. I have heard the weather has cleared up now so hopefully they are finishing up well. I am so excited to see The Rum Diary!! It was an honor to work with on a project with Johnny Depp, I’m lucky I didn’t fall off the dock that day watching him work. Look for me in the pink 2 piece on the party boat!! xoxo, Capri
